HOUSE TRAINING

House training your puppy is all about 'Routine', 'Going For a Pee' and 'Rewarding'...

This can be a "FUN" time for puppy and owner, but with a little bit of knowledge and time, it need not be a problem.

Never punish or rub your puppies nose in it.

All this will do is teach the puppy that you are a horrible person, and that he needs to hide away behind the sofa next time he needs a pee or worse!

Its simply up to you to teach him the right place to do it...

Start by laying down a good layer of newspaper for the first few days, just in case of accidents.

Don't use newspaper for too long, or you may find he thinks that's where the toilet is!

You will soon find out that there are certain times when your puppy will need to pee...

After sleeping...

After eating...

After playing...

Routinely take your puppy outside after each of these activities and wait for him to go to the toilet.

As he does try using some words such as "Pee Pee's" or "Hurry Up"...

When he finishes, give him a tasty treat and make a lot of fuss to let your puppy know he's done well.

If he's too distracted by playing in the garden, try taking him out on the lead and reward by letting him off to play.

After a few weeks your puppy will learn that the garden is the place to go, and you will learn his signs to tell you that he needs to go outside.

If he does get caught short in the house, just clean up and carry on.

And remember never punish him.
